Underwater treadmill therapy is a low-impact, controlled form of exercise in a tank the fills with warm water and has a motorized treadmill the dogs walk on to build muscle strength, promote recovery, and increase mobility. The water level, speed and duration are adjusted to match the dog's condition.
How it Works:
- Buoyancy which supports much of the dog's weight, reduces stress on the bones and joints
- Resistance builds muscle - moving through water makes the muscles work harder without risking impact injuries
- Warm water relaxes the muscles reducing stiffness, and increases circulation aiding healing
Benefits:
- Helps dogs recover from surgeries and injuries faster
- Aids arthritis or hip sysplasis by improving range of motion
- Strengthens weak hind limbs and improves balance and gait
- Improves cardiovasular fitness
Which dogs benefit most from underwater treadmill therapy:
- Senior dogs with arthritis and decreased mobilty
- Dogs recovering from injury or surgery
- Dogs with neurological problems
- Dogs that are overweight or deconditioned
- Working or sporting dogs that need to stay conditioned
